Janzu: The Sacred Flow
We began our lives in water. Before we ever took a breath of air or felt the weight of gravity we floated in the dark safety of the womb. The water is our first home and it remembers us even when we have forgotten ourselves.
In the modern world we walk heavy on the hard ground. We carry the burdens of our days in the tightness of our shoulders and the clenching of our jaws. We forget how to float. We forget how to surrender to a force greater than our own will. To enter the water for healing is to return to the beginning of time. It is to let the body dissolve into the fluid embrace of the earth and remember the art of total trust.
The Dance of Surrender
Janzu is a silent dance between the giver and the receiver. It is a practice of pure reception. You do not have to swim. You do not have to hold yourself up. The water holds you and the therapist guides you through the currents like a piece of driftweed in the tide.
This is a profound nervous system reset that bypasses the mind entirely. In this weightless state the spine uncoils and the armor of the muscles melts away. We are so used to holding ourselves together that we forget how good it feels to fall apart. In the water you are safe to let go of the control you maintain in your daily life. You are invited to simply be.
The Medicine of Flow
Water has the unique ability to absorb what no longer serves us. As the body moves in rhythmic, spiral motions, the stagnant energy trapped in the joints and tissues begins to loosen. This is somatic healing in its most gentle form.
The silence underwater is not empty but full of peace. It is a liminal space where the noise of thoughts cannot follow and the heart is free to beat in rhythm with the slow pulse of the ocean. Here in the suspension of gravity we find a stillness that restores the soul.
Prayer to the Waters
Grandmother Ocean,
Mother of all living things
Wash away the dust of the road
And take the heavy weight from our bones
Teach us to flow around the stones
And to trust the current of our lives
Cleanse the mirrors of our eyes
That we may see the world made new
We return to your womb
To be born again
